Who we are

Fig. 1 (“we”, “us”) publishes a weekly digest of machine learning papers, at fig1.dev, with a free edition and an optional paid premium tier. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what rights you have over it under UK data protection law.

Fig. 1 is operated from the UK and is the data controller for the personal data described here. Postal address: Unit 169636, PO Box 7169, Poole, BH15 9EL. Contact: hello@fig1.dev.

What we collect

We collect only what the product needs to run:

• Email address. Used to send you the weekly digest and to confirm and manage your subscription. Required for both the free digest and premium.
• Premium billing data. If you upgrade to premium, we store a Stripe customer identifier and your subscription status (whether you are currently a paying subscriber). We do not receive or store your card number; that is handled entirely by Stripe.
• Server logs. Standard request and error logs generated by our hosting provider, kept for operating and securing the service. Email addresses in logs are masked to their domain (for example ***@example.com).

We do not collect payment card details, and we do not run third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts on this site.

Who processes your data

We use a small number of processors to run the service, and share only what each one needs:

• Stripe, to process premium payments and manage subscriptions.
• Resend, to deliver the digest, confirmation, and account emails.
• Google Cloud Platform, to host the application and store data in a Postgres database in the europe-west2 (London) region.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with anyone else for their own marketing purposes.

Our legal basis for processing

For the free digest, we rely on your consent: you sign up, you confirm by email, and you can withdraw that consent at any time. For premium, we rely on the contract between us: processing your email address and billing status is necessary to provide the subscription you have paid for.

Cookies

We set one strictly necessary cookie: a session cookie used to keep you signed in and to gate premium content. It is set automatically and does not need your consent under UK law.

We also use an optional, consent-gated analytics tool, PostHog, hosted on servers in the EU. It is off by default: nothing is recorded until you accept the analytics banner shown on your first visit. If you accept, it collects basic usage events, such as which pages you visit and which buttons you use, so we can see what is working and what is confusing. It does not run advertising, does not build a marketing profile of you, and we do not sell any data to anyone. If you decline, or take no action, no analytics cookies are set and no usage data is collected.

You can withdraw consent at any time by declining in the banner (once you have made a choice it will not show again, unless you clear your browser’s cookies and site data for fig1.dev), or simply by clearing your cookies for this site.

How long we keep your data

We keep your subscriber record for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we retain a minimal record (your email and its unsubscribed status) so we do not email you again by mistake, and delete it fully on request. Premium billing records are kept for as long as required for tax and accounting purposes after a subscription ends. Server logs are retained for a limited operational window and then rotated out.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, receive a copy of it in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights:

• Email hello@fig1.dev and we will respond within one month.
• Use the unsubscribe link included in every digest email to stop receiving it immediately, no account required.
• Request full account deletion at any time by emailing us; we will remove your subscriber and billing records except where we are required by law to keep them.

You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you think we have mishandled your data.
